MAURITIUS
Mauritius, a volcanic island nation in the Indian Ocean, is known for its beaches, lagoons and reefs. Located near the Tropic of Capricorn, Mauritius enjoys a warm, tropical climate, making it an ideal all-year round island destination.
The climate can safely be divided into two main seasons, summer and winter. Summer is from around November to April, when it is hot and wet, while winter offers a cooler and drier climate, from around May to October.
The capital, Port Louis, blends foreign influences and offers sites such as the Champs de Mars horse track, colonial Eureka plantation and 18th-century botanical garden. The mountainous interior encompasses Black River Gorges National Park, with rainforests, waterfalls, hiking trails and native fauna like the flying fox.
La Maison d’Eté is set in Poste Lafayette on the Mauritius northeast coast – an area renowned for its tranquillity, luxurious vegetation and hidden coves of unspoilt white-sand beaches fringed with volcanic rock. It’s just 35 minutes’ drive from Port Louis and the resort town of Grand Baie; 30 minutes from île aux Cerfs and the Pamplemousses botanical garden; 15 minutes from Belle Mare’s beaches and four golf courses; five minutes from several kite-surfing hotspots and an hour from the island’s airport.
